I was sad to read about the fire at Gastrognome because the article
failed to turn this into a learning moment. My brother is a retired California licensed painter.
Any licensed painter or any person who reads the label of a stain knows how to handle a rag with stain/finish on it. All the person had to do was add water to the bucket when the rag was placed in there to prevent combustion.
We have hazardous waste collection twice a year. Put the water and rag in a container and hand it to the waste collection labeled “stain rags.”
We do not want a fire on our hill or at our waste collection or landfills.
