Town Hall Youth Volleyball

Volleyball Coordinator Ginger Dagnall gave this report on this season’s youth volleyball games.

Division A (second and third grades)

• Green Dragons, Coach Jeremy Teeguarden, five wins.

• Black Panthers, Coach Jason Sonnier, three wins.

• Purple Maniacs, Coach Bo Dagnall, two wins.

Division B (fourth through sixth grades)

• Orange Loco Unicorns, Coach Dawn Sonnier, five wins.

• Sharks, Coach Lance Fogle, two wins.

• Idyllwild Heat, Coach Ginger Dagnall, one win.

I have noticed such an improvement in these little players. Some of the players have never played volleyball, or any sport for that matter, and are out there learning skills at such a young age. It will only make them more competitive as they reach junior high and high school.

We all get so excited when they get a serve-over and especially if there is a rally.

The older kids are being taught actual plays and focusing on bump, set and spike. I am amazed at the power these kids have serving and they will be a force to reckon with.

Playoffs are scheduled at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, May 12 and 13, and championships are scheduled at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 15.

Idyllwild School Volleyball

Dagnall also gave this report: Idyllwild School’s Mountain Lions (sixth- through eighth-grade boys) have only played two games. The season has been cut short due to a team dropping out, and weather conditions prevented a team from coming up the Hill.

Their record stands at 1-1. The Lions played San Jacinto Valley Academy and won one match and lost one match to advance them to match 3 which they lost.

The second game was played at home and the team used its home field advantage to take San Jacinto Leadership Academy in two matches. Evan Biley’s and Ty McBride’s serves were going over with such force most couldn’t be returned. Noah Rutherford and Yan Ivanov were attacking the net with several spikes throughout the game.

The Lions’ upcoming games, all at 3:15 p.m., are Monday, May 12 at St. Johns; Monday, May 19, at Noli; and Wednesday, May 21 at St. Hyacinth.
