On Wednesday, April 13, Vicki Jakubac was selected as the new Pine Cove Water District director, replacing Tim Lange who resigned in March. From among four applicants, the board unanimously chose Jakubac.

She has lived in Pine Cove for more than 20 years, raised two children and is a former PCWD employee. She left the office in March 2015.

Her health problems have stabilized and she feels well enough to help her community through service on the water board.

“I feel pretty good about my health. I’m not too worried about it,” she said in the afternoon after the meeting.

One of the areas that will draw her attention, as it did when she was employed there, is conservation.

“I want to encourage people to do as much as they can to conserve,” she stressed. “It’s not what we have today, but what we have tomorrow.”

To Jakubac, water conservation is the same as increasing supply through drilling wells or diverting stream flow, and often is less expensive.

When asked if she thought about being a director when she was an employee, Jakubac replied, “Well, no, never thought I’d do it. Obviously, I didn’t plan to leave, and I hope I continue to get better.”
