Cal Trans will have intermittent closures on Highway 243 this Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. from Mt. Edna Road to Smith Creek Road in Banning.

The Caltrans Rock Climbing and Bank Scaling Team will be removing slide material and rocks from the slope adjacent to the highway.

This specialized team, made up of Caltrans employees from numerous Maintenance operations, continues to give “facelifts” to the slopes adjacent to the
mountain highways in District 8 to reduce the volume of rocks and debris that make their way down the mountain slopes and on to the highways during the winter months.
One-way traffic control will occur during this time frame. Intermittent full closures are needed when slide material is released from the slope the highway.
Motorists will be held for short periods of time and then permitted to travel through the work zone once the “all clear” is given.
The closure is needed to ensure the safety of both the public and the crews working within the closure.
