Construction begins on new Idyllwild library
Crews are gutting the inside of the Cornet Building, adjacent to Fairway Market, this week to make way for a remodel of the building, which will house the new Idyllwild library. Friends of the Idyllwild Library and residents expect the new library to be open this coming summer.

Idyllwild Fire Protection Department crews responded to a structure fire Thursday around 12:30 p.m. in the 5400 block of North Circle Drive.
The house belongs to Lloyd Wood, former Idyllwild Postmaster. His daughter, Linda Richardson, started a fire in the wood burning stove to "take the chill off the house." The Woods were not home at the time.

Idyllwild Fire selects Sherman as interim fire chief
The Idyllwild Fire Protection District (IFPD) commission signed a contract with Mike Sherman to be the interim Idyllwild fire chief. Sherman, the former Crest Forest Fire Chief, agreed to the details during the Jan. 10 meeting and signed the 180-day contract before leaving the station that night.

Red Cross trailer vandalized then removed
Veronica Alt, president of Mountain Disaster Preparedness, reported that the local Red Cross trailer on the Idyllwild Pines property was vandalized sometime after the first of the year. Four local Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit (RMRU) volunteers assisted in the rescue of an injured bicyclist in the area of Fuel Break Road in Idyllwild.
